Hot Hot Hot

I am sweating- I mean sitting- in my mudroom in front of a tiny fan. Hopefully, later this p.m. I will venture out into the jungle that was once a manicured lawn and beds. While I seemed to be on Hiatus, the things around me were definately not! Now I have to play catch-up. There will be tons of clippings and pruning and Oh MY God ---The WEEDS! The finances will not be available till the Sept check to fix the altenator in my beloved little truck, so I will load all debris in the back of the bed for now in barrels. The nice thing about this month is a lion's share of lillies and Feverfew and Phlox and Clematis are going crazy in the heat and humidity! I have color everywhere! Just wish I had a camera to share this with all of you. Maybe Santa will get the memo???  Those stinkey "Josee" lilacs are blooming again, so I view them from afar. Some sunflowers the birds planted are huge and I can't wait for the blooms. Each year the birds pick  some of the seeds to snack on  and in flight they drop some. They show up all around the yard. It is fun to see where 'nature" plans things to be. There seems to be a redundancy in my thoughts today. Both entries contain similar things. Sorry.

  1. Whoa, two posts in a single day! The heat must be getting to you. Oh, and I am still waiting on a explanation of what your mudroom is. (LOL?)

    1. A mudroom is an old farmer's term for the small room just inside the back door of a farm house where workers took off their muddy or wet clothes and shoes and boots when they came in from working outside in the barn or the fields. The purpose was to keep the rest of the house cleaner. Most of those barns had a strong fragrance of cow manure or other animal excrement!! Pigs, chickens, sheep, and the like. The back entry to my house was directly into the yard, so a couple of years ago I knocked down a wall and expanded the kitchen. I also added a window 'cuz I wanted light to come in. I have an Oriental rug on the floor, I picked up a roll-top desk on the side of the road, and even if I do say so myself, it is quite a cozy little spot now. It used to be a closet you could only get to if you went outside and used its door on the sidewalk. I had to close in that door and make it an outside wall. All told, it's about 7 feet by 12 feet. I hung a closet pole on one wall where all my clothes hang. (my house is 100 years old and only has one tiny closet ) Are you joking when you said you didn't know what they are? HAHA.

    2. Well, now that you have explained it, I know exactly what you are talking about, but I do not recall such a room being called a mudroom. Different parts of the country often have different terms for basically the same thing, you know. On the other hand, since I do not recall such a room actually having a specific name, it may very well be that I just haven't been paying attention to as much as I thought. Sigh,

    3. Just checking in to say HI! Hope you and wife are doing fine. Bob Villa on his home show always calls it a mudroom.( I guess you could say he is my hero.) I've been watching him for years.

  2. I hate the heat! It is hot today and the last 2 days-over 28C and I don't like it. It sounds like some of your plants do though and yes maybe Santa will bring you a camera:) I am catching up on my posts. BTW-thank you for your advice on the tree. We think it is aok. no leaves on it but the trunk is a nice colour and the branches look good and not dead-thanks for the tips!

    1. Just a note to say HI! I hopefully can get to some weeds today. Pants are soooo tight, legs have no power, and I have been hit with a lazy stick.
